Rick Simpson is a Canadian health activist best known for popularizing a concentrated cannabis extract commonly referred to as Rick Simpson Oil (RSO). Born in Canada, Simpson worked in various trades, including engineering-related fields, before gaining public attention in the early 2000s.

According to his own account, Simpson began exploring cannabis after a workplace accident left him with ongoing medical issues. He later reported developing a form of skin cancer and claimed that applying a homemade cannabis oil to the affected area led to a recovery. This personal experience became the foundation of his advocacy.

Simpson went on to promote his method widely, encouraging others to produce and use similar cannabis extracts. He shared his story through lectures, interviews, and the 2008 documentary Run From the Cure, which helped bring international attention to his work. Over time, RSO became a widely recognized term within alternative health communities.

His claims—particularly regarding cancer treatment—remain controversial and are not supported as a cure by mainstream medical research. However, Simpson has continued to influence discussions around medical cannabis, especially in the context of patient-driven experimentation and access to alternative therapies.

In later years, Simpson relocated outside of Canada and has maintained a lower public profile, though his work continues to be referenced in conversations about cannabis-based treatments.
