Details

Nicholas James Gonzalez, MD (1947-2015) was a New York physician and author associated with the Gonzalez Protocol, a controversial nutritional-enzyme approach to cancer care. He graduated from Brown University, worked as a journalist, completed premedical studies at Columbia, and received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1983. During medical training and later immunology work with Robert A. Good, Gonzalez investigated the cancer treatment approach of William Donald Kelley; that investigation later became One Man Alone: An Investigation of Nutrition, Cancer, and William Donald Kelley.

Gonzalez practiced privately in New York beginning in 1987 and wrote several books on nutrition, pancreatic enzymes, metabolic typing, and cancer. His approach involved individualized diets, supplements, pancreatic enzymes, and detoxification routines. The National Cancer Institute PDQ summary describes the regimen as complex and individualized, with limited and conflicting clinical data; mainstream evaluations have not accepted it as a proven cancer treatment. In this database he is tracked because of his authorship, influence on alternative and integrative cancer literature, and connection to the Gonzalez Protocol.
